Iced Coffee was originally created as a T-shirt design to be uploaded to Threadless. I once heard the phrase, “no matter how cold it gets, I will always order iced coffee.” As an iced coffee drinker and a born and raised Wisconsinite with a love of puns, I thought it would be fun to draw a coffee cup bundled up in a winter hat and scarf because it is cold. I wanted to use as few colors as possible since this design was intended for a screen printed T-shirt. I chose a dark navy and maroon for the hat to contrast with the lighter brown in the coffee. The area in the cup above the coffee is left blank so that the blue shirt it was intended to be printed on would show through. This eliminates the need for an additional color.
This design was later printed as stickers and redesigned into a short GIF animation. The GIF shows the ice cubes bobbing in the coffee. This was a test when I was first learning to use After Effects and my goal was to create an animation from one of my previously created pieces. I chose Iced Coffee for this because I think it is one of the most fun illustrations I have created.
